Happy Friday friends! This weekend I wanted to share a recipe that I get asked to make quite a bit from friends & family when we host get togethers… My diy iced coffee at home! It’s pretty simple and quick to whip up, but what makes all the difference in my opinion, is the coffee maker you use + homemade syrup. Fair warning, I don’t really measure anything, I kind of just eyeball it, haha.
Overnight Cold Brew:
Before you make yourself a glass of iced coffee, you have to brew some the night before! I use this cold brew coffee pitcher from Amazon, it works so good and makes your coffee taste better then Starbucks 🤪 Yep! I said it!
I add just enough coffee grounds to the filter, so that I only have about 2 inches left of space at the top of the filter. We prefer our cold brew alittle strong so this is the perfect amount for us. Then, screw on the filter to the lid and fill the pitcher with cold water, to almost full. Don’t fill the pitcher completely full because once you add the filter, it’ll spill! Put the filter and lid on and let it sit in the fridge for 12 hours. The longer you let it sit to brew the better it tastes!
I usually make mine right before bed and the next night I pour myself a glass.
Homemade Coffee Syrup
The key to this recipe is the type of syrup you use. Store bought just doesn’t taste the same to me, but it will work just fine if you don’t wanna make your own.
Add 1 & 1/2 cups of water, 1 & 1/2 cups of sugar, and 1/4 cup of brown sugar to a saucepan. Cook on medium high heat just until the sugars dissolve and the water becomes a thick consistency (about 10-15 minutes). Remove from heat and add 1 & 1/2 tbs of vanilla extract (or whatever extract flavor you prefer). Let cool and add to a glass bottle or air tight jar. You can store this in the fridge to use for each glass you make!
How to make your Diy Iced Coffee at home
- Ice
- Cold brew coffee
- The Syrup flavor of your choosing (I prefer vanilla)
- Liquid Creamer
- Optional: Whipped cream, mini chocolate chips, or Carmel/chocolate drizzle
Step 1: Add Ice + Syrup Step 2: Add Cold Brew Step 3: Add Cream + Stir
Fill a glass or bottle with ice (I like mine full), then add your syrup. I usually just add enough to where an inch of the ice is covered. Next, fill the glass with your cold brew, and add in a splash or two of cream. Top it off with whipped cream, chocolate chips, and a caramel drizzle!
Be sure to stir it good so the syrup isn’t all on the bottom, and enjoy!
