This weeks blog post is a an old folk remedy that’s meant to treat colds and flus – Fire Cider. Fire Cider is made-up of apple cider vinegar and immune boosting herbs, vegetables, and even fruits. It’s perfect to make ahead of time for the coming cold months, since this recipe takes 4 weeks to steep. You can basically throw in or take out whatever immune boosting ingredients you prefer or can find.
Ingredients:
- 1 medium onion diced
- 1/2 root of ginger root diced
- 1/4 cup of garlic diced
- 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper
- 1 tbs of fresh rosemary
- 2 jalapeños diced with seeds and ribs (optional, but may want to omit if giving this recipe to kids)
- 2 cups raw apple cider vinegar with the mother in it
Directions:
Chop up all your ingredients and toss into a glass mason jar. Pour your apple cider vinegar over your ingredients, making sure everything is completely submerged. If needed add a fermentation weight ( the top of an apple works fine too) to keep everything fully submerged. Place an airtight lid on top and let sit to steep in a cool dark place for 4 weeks. Be sure to shake your mixture every day. After 4 weeks, strain your solids, then stir in 1/4 cup of raw honey to your liquid and take 1.5 oz of your fire cider as needed daily. If it’s too spicy feel free to add more honey!
